We’re excited to share our updates with you in three primary categories:

In February, high school students from San Gabriel talked about pressure they feel to conform to others’ expectations for them based on their gender. Many shared that they are afraid of being hurt or rejected by others if they don’t always meet those expectations. One student talked about their personal struggle with this as they plan to major in science in college. Though the field of science has been historically dominated by men, this student is excited to embrace what makes them happy (science!) and to forge a path for others who may be like them.
Youth who participated in CPAF’s leadership workshops earlier this year, are working with volunteer mentors to explore several topics of interest including:
Healthy parental/caregiver relationships
The qualities of healthy friendships
Access to LGBTQ+ education amongst API youth
In March, the Youth Leaders learned about conducting interviews and focus groups to gain a deeper understanding about how these topics impact their own communities, and we look forward to sharing more about their initiatives!
It has been a challenging time navigating this work amidst the ever-changing shelter-in-place orders, and finding new ways to support and engage youth from our homes to theirs. Our students, youth leaders, and volunteer mentors continue to inspire us by their incredible acts of resilience and service!
Save these dates and get involved by joining us at our upcoming events for adults and youth!
These are unprecedented times, with many of us experiencing the hardship of isolation & physical distancing, a home that doesn’t always feel safe, business that isn’t coming in, unemployment, xenophobia & racism, and heightened anxiety. As you have partnered with us to provide much needed support, we too want to be a source of comfort and assistance to you. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic or sexual violence please call our 24-hour, multilingual helpline: 1-800-339-3940. We have included additional resources you or someone you know may find helpful as well.

Social distancing does not have to lead to social isolation. We can take care of each other in this crisis and reach out to loved ones, friends, neighbors and colleagues to see if they have the care and support they need, and if they feel safe at home. Here are some ways to do that: Click to learn how to support youth and adults living with violence.
