Summary
Center for the Pacific Asian Family (CPAF) is a non-profit organization recognized nationally for its pioneering work in domestic violence and sexual assault. CPAF’s multi-lingual and multi-cultural services include a 24-hour hotline, short term and long-term shelters, counseling, case management, and supportive services. CPAF also provides violence prevention programs, outreach, education and advocacy on the issues of family violence and violence against women, focusing on the Asian and Pacific Islander community.
CPAF is a community-based organization that draws from multiple disciplines to holistically serve individuals and families of many different sizes and cultural backgrounds. Staff work in environments where children are present and may be called upon to provide support as needed.
Children & Youth Services Coordinator will emerge as CPAF’s in-house ‘expert’ on providing victim services to children and youth, leveraging CPAF’s outreach and community engagement work through diverse staff and volunteers and equipping those staff and volunteers to provide immediate crisis intervention and comprehensive victim services to children/youth survivors of interpersonal violence. This role will serve as the designated Child/Youth Advocate, taking the lead in providing direct services to children/youth victims in both shelter and community settings. Children & Youth Services Coordinator will be a key member of the Community Program Team under the supervision of Community Services Program Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Program coordination and support:
o Coordinate children and youth services in the community program and shelter program and make recommendations to the Manager
o Manage and address staff capacity issues to serve children and youth in collaboration with program managers.
o Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure optimal utilization of resources and efficient management of internal mechanism for supporting children and youth.
o Maintain current knowledge in the field and attend seminars/workshops to increase professional knowledge and effectiveness.
o Participate in client case discussions by presenting information and recommendations on clients’ action plan especially when children and youth are involved and/or support child protective services involvement/engagement and mandated reporting mechanism.
• Direct Services:
o Implement support group models that meet the needs of children and youth
o Ensure child-friendly and youth-friendly trauma informed care/support provided to children and youth.
o Provide crisis intervention, direct services individual and group counseling to child/youth survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence if needed.
o Model and teach nonviolent discipline and conflict resolution skills to adults, children and youth receiving services.
o Provide referral information, counseling, and emotional support in a nonjudgmental, non-directive manner to children/youth survivors.
• Community Education:
o Represent CPAF in identified opportunities for the community-based events presenting the knowledge about supporting children/youth impacted by Domestic Violence/Dating Violence
o Participate and engage with internal and external key stakeholders’ meetings/collaborations/coalitions to improve services for children and youth impacted by Domestic Violence/Dating Violence
• Travel requirements: Driving is an essential job function for this position in order to meet with clients and families as needed. A valid CA driver’s license is required if using employee’s own vehicle or agency vehicle to perform duties. The employee must show proof of insurance for own vehicle and must also be eligible for coverage under CPAF’s auto insurance policy.
• Teamwork: Provide general support asked of all staff which may include: responding to emergencies, providing hotline or site coverage, providing translation, maintaining a functioning office. Participate in program and organizational development and fundraising, and attend staff and team meetings.
• Outreach: Identify/create opportunities to be an ambassador for CPAF’s mission.
Qualifications
The qualified candidate must possess demonstrated knowledge, skill, abilities and experience in the following areas:
General
• Committed to eliminating intimate partner violence, sexual abuse, and family violence; practices nonviolence including non-corporal child discipline.
• Understands and is aligned with CPAF’s organizational values of Commitment to Nonviolence, Upholding Confidentiality, Self Determination, Teamwork, Continued Development, and Collaboration
• Understands and appreciates Asian/Pacific Islander cultures; is able to work with diverse communities (race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, age, gender identity, class, etc.). Bilingual in an Asian or Pacific Islander language preferred.
• Must submit to DOJ level Live Scan and subsequent arrest notification, national/local sex offender registry check, annual TB test and annual driving record search.
• Must be based in California and have reliable transportation to and from CPAF headquarters.
• Must have access to own vehicle.
Job Execution
• Understanding and sensitivity toward the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and the purpose and philosophy of trauma informed care and nonviolence philosophy.
• Ability to make decisions, follow-up and take responsibility for the outcome of those decisions.
• Able to effectively and efficiently address crises and problem-solve with open communication
• Strong work ethic, self-directed and able to coordinate multiple tasks, and highly motivated.
• Understanding of issues related to child protective services and sensitivity to cultural diversity and cultural specific/cultural responsive services.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients’ information as well as shelter location for the safety of clients and staff.
• Critical thinking skills are also needed to perform duties.
• Able to work well independently and as a member of a team; able to work collaboratively and thrive in a flexible, evolving environment, adapt to situations and manage change effectively.
• Able to plan work schedule respective to program needs, including working evenings or weekends if needed.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Must complete 65-hour domestic violence/sexual assault certification training within six months of employment.
