About the Event

We are hosting a one-of-a-kind dining experience with a unique and delicious meal, Filipino style. Guests will be treated to a personalized cooking class with Chef Justin Foronda, owner and chef of LA-based restaurant, HiFi Kitchen. Proceeds from the event will go toward CPAF’s mission to end violence.

While social distancing is important for slowing the spread of disease, we know that at times of economic downturn and isolation, incidents of domestic violence and other abuses increase. As an essential agency during the COVID-19 pandemic, CPAF continues to work around the clock to support survivors with emergency and transitional shelter, as well as counseling, prevention, and other services. We need your support to raise much-needed unrestricted funding to meet the needs of survivors and to end domestic violence and sexual assault in our community.

What we’ll be cooking:
Chef Justin Foronda will give a cooking lesson on his coveted laing dish. Laing is a savory Filipino dish of coconut milk braised taro leaves in aromatics & spices. Trust us, it’s delicious. What better way to get ready for the holiday and add another delectable dish to your repertoire.

  • Attendees will be provided with the ingredients to cook laing for 2-4 servings, depending how hungry you are.

  • Attendees will also receive a cooked protein of their choice (tofu & cauliflower or chicken) with white rice, along with a dessert by Crème Caramel.

About the Bar

Genever is LA’s best gin bar, located in Historic Filipinotown, and proudly owned and operated by three Filipina women. At Genever, the Drink Is Queen, with close to 50 different gins, and a cocktail menu that highlights familiar Filipino flavors in surprising ways. Genever was built with an eye to elevating the work of women, and particularly women of color. Genever celebrated their two year anniversary the day before they had to close earlier this March 2020. With Covid-19 they had to physically close the bar, but they have launched a cocktails to-go program and can be hired for virtual social events so that people can enjoy their drinks in the comfort and safety of their home.
