Transitional Shelter Community Room Renovation

Thank you to Present Now for their generous 2022 Founders Circle Holiday Grant which enabled CPAF to renovate the client community room at our transitional shelter. Renovations have now been completed, making it a more child-friendly space. With support from the talents of interior designer Jenny Troung, who donated her time and skills, CPAF now has a calm, vibrant, and relaxing space for families to gather and enjoy.

Celebrating Women's History Month

In celebration of Women’s History Month, chefs Courtney Van Dyke of Per L’Ora and Ana Palamores from Death & Co, came together to create a five-course special tasting dinner, with CPAF as the event beneficiary. Curated by CPAF’s long-time superstar supporter, Jenni Hwang, the evening highlighted several women-owned businesses, including floral designs by Poppy & Plum and lash and brow treatments by Saint Mykle Beauty. We are appreciative of the community support!

Parenting with Nonviolence

For the past seven weeks, CPAF facilitated a training of the trainers for Parenting with Nonviolence. We partnered with several Asian and Pacific Islander serving agencies to help equip parents with healthy strategies when it comes to parenting. Participants were guided in moving from a dominant to a nonviolence paradigm.

Below are a couple of quotes from participants who attended the training.

"The purpose of Parenting with Nonviolence is to focus more on strategies where both parent and child needs can be met.”

"It is difficult to shift from a dominant paradigm to a paradigm of PNV because values are deeply rooted in personal experiences with dominant paradigm. However, it gets easier in practicing POWER, and self-empathy is crucial for parents to have for oneself throughout the journey."

The training covers such topics as role modeling values, childhood reflections, early brain development, a series on anger and concepts of nonviolence.

The next training will take place in Summer/Fall 2023. To sign up, click here: Training of Trainers: Parenting With Nonviolence

Thank you, S. Mark Taper Foundation!

CPAF is tremendously thankful to the S. Mark Taper Foundation for its generous grant of $100,000. This grant funding will deepen CPAF's sustainability initiatives to remain responsive and flexible in our programs for underserved Asian and Pacific Islander survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Founded in 1989, the S. Mark Taper Foundation is a private family foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of people's lives. CPAF looks forward to partnering with the Foundation to build healthy and safe communities and nurture change together.

This year, CPAF celebrates its 45th anniversary of nurturing change together. In commemoration, we want to hear from all current and former CPAF staff, interns, board, advisory board, volunteers, clients, youth participants, donors, and supporters, “What is something you have learned from CPAF that you use in your life?” For more detailed information, submission guidelines, and examples, click here: Your CPAF Impact Story
